How To Create Balance
The Three Minds
In order to find our inner balance it is helpful to think in terms of us having three states of mind.
Emotional Mind
When you’re in the emotion mind logic can drop away, you may speed up, get busy and become vulnerable to overly emotional ways of looking at yourself, others & the world. Fear or hopelessness can distort the facts and it’s hard to remain objective.
Reasonable Mind
When you’re in the reasonable mind you can be objective and clear but detached. You are in control but removed from connecting with your own emotional world and connecting with others.
Wise Mind
Wise mind is the balance between reasonable mind and emotional mind. This balanced place is where the strengths of the intellect and the emotions can come together. You might think about this as being able to listen to your gut or intuition. It allows us to take effective action to the situation we find ourselves in.
Effective action is personal for each person and situation but for some examples include:
- Learning how to develop a warm, compassionate voice for ourselves instead of listening to the fearful or self-critical thoughts
- Taking the risk of talking about your disease & what you’re feeling with others
- Going against the pressuring mind & resting when it feels like you should be doing more
How To Access Your Wise Mind
The mind has the natural ability to balance itself. The easiest way to let this process happen for you is to learn how to step back and see more fully that you are not your mind, you have a mind.
Here is a short practice to do this.
